On 2 July 2026, the SLOPE project was featured in the FIS Sustainability Webinar Series during a session titled SLOPE: when nature and biodiversity protection take shape through a European project. The webinar was organised by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) for members of the FIS Family. The event formed part of FIS’s annual webinar series, which shares practical sustainability knowledge and good practices across the winter sports community.

During the session, participants were introduced to the SLOPE project, its partnership, objectives and planned activities. The presentation highlighted how SLOPE will support ski organisations in strengthening biodiversity management by building knowledge and capacity, assessing biodiversity impacts, risks and opportunities, and promoting practical solutions for the winter sports sector.

The webinar also explored the relationship between skiing and biodiversity, outlining key environmental pressures (including land-use change, resource use, pollution, climate change and invasive species) and their relevance to winter sports.

Existing resources, including the BENCHES Biodiversity Assessment Tool for Sport, were presented as useful starting points while SLOPE develops its own tools and guidance.

The webinar created an opportunity to present SLOPE to key stakeholders across the skiing community, raise awareness of biodiversity management, and encourage organisations to account for biodiversity concerns in their activities as the project progresses.

As the project progresses, SLOPE will continue sharing its activities, results and resources with the wider winter sports community.
